The truest form of consent expands beyond just a yes and a no. Consent is an embodied feeling.
I’ve been exploring consent a lot lately. With self, with others, within spaces + in places that it feels harder to predict or anticipate. It’s been a hot topic of conversation in the community - confronting experiences that have fallen short of the great ethics we want to strive for and as a result, have caused harm.
I’ve been feeling into my body and reflecting on the way my own experiences have unfolded in real time and how my body-mind-heart-soul felt. There are so many articles, posts, conversations, and classes that tell you HOW consent should look, but ultimately, consent is a feeling that must be simplified into words in order to communicate what we want, need, desire ,and want to avoid. (check out this read on Consent from local community member, Flog and Flow).
I have been spiraling for months on end about how to translate the things I have experienced, learned, felt, and am curious about into “content that is digestible enough to be “consumed.” This has felt icky and sticky. The stall comes from the feelings of the options feeling too performative, permanent, and pressured. But this week I’ve been observing how when I teach live classes, the “definitions” and explorations unfold in real time. So I want to try to commit for a period to living this a little more online to see how it feels for both me and you.
So, I will spend time in March talking, creating, and sharing in a variety of ways about:
• Consent
• Bondage
• Healing + Relationships
• Curiosity + Play
More to come Monday, lovers.
